On the evening of the 28 February ESA’s new earth observation satellite Envisat will be launched on board an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guayana. The eight ton satellite will continue a programme of monitoring the Earth from space started 15 years ago with ESA’s ERS satellite.
This programme provides an overview of Envisat and explains how the satellite’s sophisticated instruments will be used in a variety of different fundtions from global disaster management to ozone level detection.
