On 12 July of last year, ESA’s Artemis satellite appeared to be stranded in a wrong orbit. Engineers have been working hard since then on a recovery scenario, the latest step of which took place on Tuesday 19 February, when Artemis’ ion propulsion engines were fired to propel the spacecraft into its final geosttaionary orbit. This programme outlines how ESA and Telespazio ground controllers have worked on the problem and come up with the solution to use the ion-propulsion system on Artemis, a newly developed technology normally used to keep the satellite in the correct orbit, to raise the orbit to its correct value of 36,000 kilometres above the Earth.
The 5-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a B-roll with international sound only. The script is on-line as of the day of transmission, as a PDF document under http://television.esa.int/photos/EbS23896.pdf
