ITEM 1 (11:00-11:15 GMT) Envisat – Measuring Ozone
Early in 2002, ESA’s Envisat satellite is due to be launched on Ariane 5. This is the second of eight ESA TV Exchange Programmes on Envisat’s science and application promises and illustrates how the Gomos instrument on Envisat will be used to monitor ozone depletion from space, with unprecedented accuracy. ITEM 2 (11:20-11:35 GMT) The Andromede mission
On 21 October 2001, ESA astronaut Claudie HaignerÈ is scheduled to become the first European woman to visit the International Space Station. This ESA/CNES production provides an overview of the French Andromede mission (managed by CNES) of ESA astronaut Claude HaignerÈ to the ISS. The 5-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a longer B-roll with clean international sound. There are French soundbites by the astronaut on the B-roll, and footage of her recent training in Star City and Houston. ITEM 3 (11:40-11:55 GMT) Envisat – Transportation
Envisat is the biggest satellite ever developed in Europe. Its transport from ESA’s test and integration facilities in Noordwijk in the Netherlands to Europe’s spaceport in Kourou in South America took place by plane, this spring. Getting 8 tons of delicate hi-tech equipment transported over 8000 km was no easy task for the engineers and logistics experts. This programme item tells the story, including soundbites with those who participated in the task.
