Successful SpaceX Launch Leads Way for U.S. Commercial Space Initiatives from Florida

Space Florida – the State of Florida’s aerospace economic development agency – would like to congratulate SpaceX on achieving a significant milestone this morning with the successful launch of the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule from Cape Canaveral. SpaceX is the first U.S. commercial space company to successfully launch a demonstration mission to the ISS as part of NASA’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program.

Transportation of commercial cargo to and from the ISS is key to the sustainability of the U.S. Space program. Since its’ establishment of launch facilities in Florida, Space Florida has been working with SpaceX to provide infrastructure and other support for program growth in the state.

“SpaceX is leading the way in commercial space initiatives and we are thrilled to have witnessed today’s successful launch from Cape Canaveral,” said Space Florida President Frank DiBello. “We will continue to support SpaceX’s operations within our state and look forward to seeing them achieve their next milestone of successfully docking to the International Space Station to demonstrate cargo transfer capabilities – a significant step in reducing our reliance on other countries to do so.”
