Espanola-Based Akal Security Awarded $1.18 Billion NASA Contract
Akal Security to Provide Protective Services Spanning 14 NASA Facilities in 12 States
Coastal International Security, Inc. (Coastal), a wholly owned subsidiary of Akal Security, Inc. (Akal), announced today that it has been awarded a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) contract in the amount of approximately $120 million per year, totaling $1.18 billion over the next 10 years should all options be exercised by NASA. The contract will consolidate protective services being performed independently at 14 NASA locations, including the White Sands Test Facility near Las Cruces, New Mexico, Kennedy and Johnson Space Centers, and the NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

By merging the protective services being performed at these locations into a single contract, Coastal will be able to provide NASA with integrated measures to mitigate security threats through effective policies and services. Under the new contract, Coastal will be providing these 14 NASA locations with emergency management, security services, fire services, export control and information assurance.
Coastal’s proposal was determined to have provided the “best value” to NASA, in a full and open competition with four of America’s major security services providers.
