Description
NASA is releasing an open letter to the geosynchronous satellite community encouraging discussion on proposed “cooperative servicing aids,” features that could be incorporated into new satellites to facilitate future on-orbit servicing.
The letter was written in response to requests following NASA’s 2012 Second International Workshop on On-Orbit Satellite Servicing.
To foster discussion, the letter includes a list of proposed cooperative servicing aids. Suggestions range from low-impact activities such as imaging the spacecraft on the ground at the same wavelength the on-orbit rendezvous sensor would be using, to more involved activities such as adding a standardized docking feature to a satellite during its build phase.
The full letter with proposed list of cooperative servicing aids can be found in the attached file described as “NASA Cooperative Servicing Aids Letter.”
