Warner Bros. Pictures Offers Classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” With Digitally Restored and Remastered Sound for Limited Theatrical Engagements

Kubrick’s award-winning classic, “2001: A Space Odyssey,” will be
shown in limited exclusive engagements beginning Oct. 5, 2001, and
continuing through the end of the year.
The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, president,
Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. Audiences will be able
to see the acclaimed science fiction epic in a pristine 70mm print,
with a digitally restored and fully remastered soundtrack.
“More than 30 years after its initial release, `2001: A Space
Odyssey’ remains a favorite of movie fans,” said Fellman. “We are
extremely pleased to offer this brand-new print with superior sound to
a legion of devoted fans and introduce a new generation of moviegoers
to this extraordinary film at the highest level of quality.”
The new print premieres Oct. 5 at the Cinerama Theater in Seattle.
Subsequent engagements will follow at the Castro Theater in San
Francisco, the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and The Uptown in
Washington, D.C.
“2001: A Space Odyssey” broke countless frontiers and pushed the
limits of the art of motion pictures. The film, about the nature of
man and machine, existence and eternity, set against the immeasurable
scope of the universe, has mesmerized generations of audiences and has
been called one of the most influential films in history.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director and
Screenplay, the film took home an Oscar for its stunning visual
effects and claimed three BAFTA Awards for Art Direction,
Cinematography and Sound, as well as a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic
Presentation.
Directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick from a screenplay by
Kubrick and renowned science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, “2001: A
Space Odyssey” stars Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood. The director of
photography is Geoffrey Unsworth; production designers are Tony
Masters, Harry Lange and Ernie Archer; and editor is Ray Lovejoy. The
film is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, an AOL Time Warner
