Middle School Students Fascinated by a Clean Room?
It’s true! A newly-released middle school education module titled Dynamic Design: The Cleanroom http://www.genesismission.org/educate/scimodule/Cleanroom.html focuses on the Genesis mission cleanroom at NASA Johnson Space Center near Houston, Texas. Students experience the requirements and conditions of working in NASA’s cleanest room and model the assembly of the Genesis solar collector wafers onto the array frame. The video, Cleanroom Technology http://www.genesismission.org/mission/mediarelease/index.html is an integral part of this education module.
JPL Open House Draws a Crowd
Over 60 thousand people attended the Jet Propulsion Laboratory annual Open House on May 19 and 20, celebrating JPL’s accomplishments with exhibits and demonstrations on the Laboratory’s ongoing research and space exploration. The Genesis booth offered special hands-on activities for kids of all ages, including a contest to see who could “suit up in the Genesis cleanroom” within the allotted 60 seconds. A 1/2-scale model of the Genesis spacecraft, courtesy of Lockheed Martin Astronautics, and a life-size collector array, courtesy of JPL, were featured for viewing. For children who missed out on the fun, they can check out Genesis Kids at http://www.genesismission.org/product/genesis_kids.
