NIAC Phase III studies are designed to strategically advance and transition the most promising NIAC Phase II concepts to other NASA programs, other government agencies, or commercial partners.  A NIAC Phase III continues early studies of visionary aerospace architecture, mission, and system concepts.

 

Eligibility: This Appendix is open to all categories of U.S organizations, providing they have successfully completed, or are actively completing the second year of, a NIAC Phase II study that has not already been selected for a Phase III award.  All NIAC Phase II Fellows or their designees are eligible to submit Phase III proposals based on their Phase II study, provided that they have submitted a Phase II final report.  NIAC Fellows or their designees of the predecessor NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts are no longer eligible to submit Phase III proposals based on those prior Phase II studies.

Mandatory Preliminary Proposal Due:     January 28, 2022, 5 pm ET

Invitations for Final Proposal sent by:      February 18, 2022 (Target)

Proposal Due:                                           April 20, 2022, 5 pm ET

Selection Date:                                         May 18, 2022 (Target)

Award Date:                                              October 1, 2022 (Target)

Expected Typical Award Amount: Not to exceed $2M ($1M per year)

Expected Number of Awards: 1
