Pepsi Releases Film Shot In Partnership With UrtheCast
Black Knight Decoded

Released today, Pepsi’s original short film, Black Knight Decoded, was shot from multiple perspectives on the ground and from space using UrtheCast’s Ultra High-Definition video camera, Iris, aboard the International Space Station.
Throughout Summer 2015, people from eleven countries came together to create elaborate installations, which were captured by Iris and featured throughout the film’s narrative. The innovative use of this technology, combined with an all-star cast and participants from across the globe, made this Pepsi Challenge project particularly unique. Black Knight Decoded brings together Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo, SAG Award winner Freida Pinto, Emmy Award winning director Jabbar Raisani, bestselling author James Frey, and Grammy Award winning entertainer Usher in this unprecedented short film, which can be seen in full at YouTube.com/Pepsi.

“This film is a groundbreaking example of how video of Earth from space can be used for not only scientific pursuits, but for creative ones as well. Pepsi understands the impact of new technologies, and we’re happy to have worked with them as a part of our first consumer brand partnership,” explained Scott Larson, UrtheCast’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Collaborating with Pepsi to capture video of many places across the planet was an exciting challenge for our team and a spectacular way to feature the creative possibilities of filming Earth from space.”

“Black Knight Decoded is an ambitious project that marries an all-star cast, innovative use of the UrtheCast technology and unprecedented consumer participation,” said Kristin Patrick, senior vice president of Global Brand Development, PepsiCo Global Beverage Group. “The result is an inspiring, one-of-a-kind film that was truly co-created with top notch creative film talent and consumers from around the world.”
