Over the past few weeks, we have seen acts of police brutality, social unrest, and violence in our nation. We, at NASA, have watched these disturbing events with great consternation. As the NASA family, we must continue work to embrace our principles of unity and inclusion now more than ever. If we do so, we can lead our nation in a time of healing.

To ensure sustained effectiveness in working together and to provide support for individuals during these challenging times, a number of NASA Unity Campaign programs and resources will be available to employees:

Dialogue/Listening Sessions

Each NASA center will make available facilitated dialogue and listening sessions, providing employees with opportunities to share concerns, perspectives, and experiences – with participants asked to demonstrate compassion and empathy for each other – all to foster improved understanding, awareness, trust, relationships, and to promote healing.

Health and Wellness Programs

NASA employees will have access to programs supporting their health and well-being, including workshops led by experts on grief, stress management, and caregiving responsibilities for children and elderly.

Unity Learning and Development Programs

A variety of Unity learning and development programs will be made available to NASA employees, including topics such as: mitigating unconscious bias for better decision-making; the importance of psychological safety and trust for enhancement of innovation, safety, and mission assurance; the value of an outward mindset for successful relationships and teamwork; and the importance of positivity to enhance performance, wellness, and health.

Unity Webpage

A webpage will be available to all employees with resources, tips, and tools to promote unity in our workforce and our workplaces.

In addition, NASA leaders will continue to hold regular localized discussions providing opportunities for employees to raise issues, concerns, and solutions, enabling the best possible work environment and experiences for employees.

For immediate assistance, employees may contact any of the following: their supervisors; Office of Diversity and Equal OpportunityOmbuds Office; a Center Medical Clinic; a Human Resources contact; or Employee Assistance Program.

At NASA, we will continue to provide a model of unity – demonstrating the value of equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion to our mission accomplishment. We will get through the current challenges together and I appreciate the professionalism of our amazing agency.
