Update on Agency Travel Guidance

As domestic and international travel conditions continues to change, the agency continues to review travel restrictions, the process for exceptions, and limitations for reentering a NASA facility upon return from travel. The guidance below applies to NASA civil servants and contractors, as well as domestic  and international visitors seeking access to NASA facilities.

Domestic Travel
In order to reduce the risk of virus exposure, and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention:
  • NASA will not deny access to domestic travelers to enter NASA facilities following domestic travel. A self-observation period is no longer required, but appropriate personal protective equipment/face covering is expected, in accordance with center policies.
  • If, during or upon return from your domestic trip, you or someone you have come in close proximity with feels symptomatic, please follow CDC guidelines, notify your supervisor, and conduct a 14-day self-observation period to monitor for symptoms.

International Travel
In order to reduce the risk of virus exposure, and following the guidance of the CDC and State Department:
·         Visitors who have traveled to and/or from (or had a layover in) an international location within the last two weeks will not be permitted access to NASA facilities until they have completed 14 days of self-observation and remained symptom free.
·         If you or someone you live with has come in close proximity with someone returning from international travel (for personal or business travel), please follow CDC guidelines, notify your supervisor, and conduct a 14-day self-observation period to monitor for symptoms. This observation period may include telework and/or administrative leave.
·         Travelers should be aware that this situation is dynamic, and a potential exists that they could find themselves in self-quarantine away from home. This means they should take extra medication with them and be aware of the potential for changes in travel or the status of the site they are visiting.
·
All travel will continue to be reviewed and approved on a case by case basis. Only mission-critical travel will be considered and a Request for Travel Exception form must be submitted prior to travel.

·         We will re-evaluate this policy as the situation and case counts warrant.
