VIENNA/WASHINGTON D.C., 18 October (United Nations Information Service) – The United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and Airbus invite media representatives to a press event on a joint Announcement of Opportunity (AO). The event will be held on Thursday 24 October, from 10.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., at the Airbus booth #634 at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Washington D.C.
The AO is for a mission that will offer selected institutions the opportunity to accommodate and operate a payload on the Airbus Bartolomeo platform on the International Space Station (ISS). The mission will contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by building capacity and knowledge in space technologies at the national level. It will also promote international cooperation across nations in the peaceful uses of outer space.
This initiative is part of an agreement signed by UNOOSA and Airbus to collaborate on helping all countries build in-orbit capabilities, as well as expand know-how on the use of Earth observation data and their related benefits.
The Bartolomeo mission is one of several research and orbital opportunities offered through UNOOSA’s “Access to Space 4 All” initiative, which aims to enable all countries, especially emerging space nations, to access and leverage the benefits of space.
More information about the opportunity can be found here: http://www.unoosa.org/oosa/en/
The event will include remarks from:
· Simonetta Di Pippo, Director, UNOOSA
· Johannes von Thadden, Head of Sales, Space Systems, Airbus
