CORRECTION: The international number for the pre-proposal conference was missing a digit in the previous email. This has been corrected.
ROSES-15 Amendment 23: This amendment releases text for Program Element D.12 SOFIA Third Generation Science Instrument.
Program element D.12 directs proposers to: 1) identify a specific scientific goal and/or objective for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) (either included in or beyond that which is already defined) that clearly and succinctly presents a substantial, compelling scientific case for developing new capabilities on SOFIA, that can be realized by a third generation instrument, and are consistent with the science recommendations of the 2010 decadal survey in astronomy and astrophysics and NASA’s overall scientific goals and objectives; 2) propose a specific scientific investigation that addresses the above scientific goal and/or objective and requires the development of a new, third generation SOFIA science instrument; and 3) design, build, and deliver to NASA the third-generation SOFIA science instrument that will enable the proposed specific scientific investigation, as well as a set of future Guest Investigations that are not possible or feasible with the existing suite of first and second generation SOFIA instruments.
Two-page Step-1 Proposals are due August 19, 2015, and full 25-page Step-2 proposals are due by October 7, 2015. NASA will host a preproposal telecon for prospective proposers on July 23, 2015 at 2 pm eastern. Prospective proposers may connect to the teleconference at 800-779-9017 (toll free within the United States) or at the international toll number 1-212-287-1641 with passcode 1958408. Additional information about the workshop will be posted under “Other Documents” on the NSPIRES page for this program element.
On or about July 9, 2015, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2015” (NNH15ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and will appear on the RSS feed at: http://nasascience.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grant-solicitations/roses-2015
