NASA ROSES-14 Amendment 20: LCAS CubeSat proposals to B.3, H-TIDeS limited to EM-1
ROSES-14 Amendment 20 limits LCAS CubeSat proposals submitted to Appendix B.3, Heliophysics Technology and Instrument Development for Science to Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1).
The Heliophysics Technology and Instrument Development for Science (H-TIDeS) program seeks to investigate key Heliophysics science questions by addressing the best possible (i) science and/or technology investigations that can be carried out with instruments flown on suborbital sounding rockets, stratospheric balloons, CubeSats, commercial reusable suborbital research rockets, or other platforms; (ii) state-of-the-art instrument technology development for instruments that may be proposed as candidate experiments for future space flight opportunities; (iii) laboratory research. Advancement in Heliophysics science requires the development and application of new technologies that will yield the next generation of innovative instruments. Laboratory research can be a relevant supplement to instrumentation and to the science of Heliophysics. The ability to achieve significant progress toward the scientific and technical challenges in Heliophysics in the coming years is greatly enhanced through the H-TIDeS program.
On release of ROSES-14 in February, the text of B.3 indicated that the Low-Cost Access to Space (LCAS) portion of the call would solicit CubeSat proposals that address Heliophysics science this year. This Amendment limits CubeSats submitted to Section 1.2, the LCAS part of the call, to those CubeSats that address Heliophysics science and are responsive to the Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1) opportunity. All other Low-Cost Access to Space payloads, i.e., for sounding rockets, for balloons, for commercial suborbital reusable launch vehicles or for the International Space Station (except for CubeSat investigations for which deployment from the ISS is desired), are unaffected by this change. The proposal due dates remain unchanged: Step-1 proposals are due by June 13, 2014, and Step-2 proposals are due by August 15, 2014.
