Expedition 34 Space Station Commander Kevin Ford to Visit NASA’s Marshall Center on Aug. 8; Media Invited
What & Who: Astronaut Kevin Ford, who lived and worked nearly five months as the Expedition 34 commander aboard the International Space Station, will visit NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., Aug. 8. Ford will share highlights from his 144-day mission in space — from Oct. 23, 2012, through March 15, 2013 — as part of the Expedition 33 and 34 crews.
During his stay on the station, Ford supported cargo operations of two SpaceX Dragon commercial vehicles and three Russian Progress resupply vehicles. Ford also participated in numerous scientific research investigations and performed regular maintenance and operational tasks aboard the orbiting complex.
When & Where: Thursday, Aug. 8.
1-1:15 p.m. CDT — Astronaut Kevin Ford will be available for a brief question-and-answer session with news media in Building 4663, in the Payload Operations Integration Center viewing room.
1:15 -1:45 p.m. – Ford will hang his mission plaque in a ceremony in the Payload Operations Integration Center. Media also invited to cover.
To attend: News media interested in covering the event should contact the Marshall Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than 4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7. Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard by 12:15 p.m. Aug. 8. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance.
