Mission Control Center, Houston, Texas

HOUSTON The final spacewalk to be performed by shuttle crew astronauts is planned today. Mission Specialists Greg Chamitoff and Mike Fincke will perform the historic spacewalk.

The crews of space shuttle Endeavour and Expedition 28 woke at 6:58 p.m. CDT to a modified version of the song “Fun, Fun, Fun” with shuttle-themed lyrics, played for all six STS-134 crew members.

Fincke and Chamitoff are set to begin the mission’s fourth and final spacewalk at 11:46 p.m. It is scheduled to last approximately six and a half hours.

The focus of the extravehicular activity is to stow the shuttle’s 50-foot boom on the right-side truss on a permanent stowage fixture, retrieve the grapple fixture from the station’s left-side truss and use it as a replacement for the grapple fixture currently on the boom.

The two spacewalkers also will work on a spare arm for Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (SPDM/Dextre) replacing fasteners that were used for its delivery to the station.

Four hours and 47 minutes into the spacewalk, the 1,000th hour of spacewalking for assembly and maintenance of the International Space Station will have been reached.

Station crew members Commander Andrey Borisenko, and Flight Engineers Ron Garan and Alexander Samokutyaev will continue with station maintenance and support shuttle crew activities. Garan will also assist with spacewalk preparations.

The next status report will be issued Friday afternoon, or earlier if warranted.
