A spring snow blankets eastern Canada on April 15, 2011, transforming the landscape into a mosaic of whites, grays and dull greens.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite captured this true-color image the same day.

In the east, the snow covers the highlands of the northeastern United States. From southwest to northeast, these states are New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. To the west of the St. Lawrence River, the province of Quebec lies under a white blanket from the Ottowa River in the south to the frozen Hudson Bay in the north. The Province of Ontario is similarly frosted in the north, but green peaks through a dusting of snow in the southern reaches of the province.
