Description

NASA/DFRC has a requirement for Interactive Educational Tools.

The specifications are: Require two digital video globes that allow the projection of data sets on globes in real time. Such data sets include things such as global climate patterns, natural disasters, earth observing, etc.

One each 16″ globe will be portable. The portable sphere will have a travelling case, notebook computer, portable base, LCD Touch monitor, and a dual display video card.

One each 24″ sphere will be stationary. The stationary sphere will have software and content development tools, desktop computer with wireless keyboard and mouse, pedestal base, and a touch screen kiosk including 19″ monitor with speakers.

Each sphere comes with a chassis, lens, software, remote control, community membership, documentation, support for one year and software runtime, a lumen projector, and replacement bulb for projector.

SOFTWARE LIBRARY The library of software should cover NASA and NOAA topics extensively.

For the 24″ sphere, the software will include the touch screen exhibits such as The Mars-Earth Connection, Aura, Earth, Moon, Mars and Beyond, Solar System Tour, Lunar Precursor Robotic Program, and NASA Earth Science Exhibit.

For the 16″ sphere, there is a multitude of software to select from; this includes Geology Earth Systems, Deep Space, Planetary Systems, etc.

TRAINING DESCRIPTON A one-day in person training will cover the entire system both for both spheres. The training will illustrate comprehensive usage of both spheres in a NASA-DFRC educational curriculum, and suggestions for set up and display. The company should be available for telephone training or questions during normal business hours for the life of both products.

MAINTENANCE DESCRIPTION One year software and hardware support maintenance and updates will be provided. Extension of maintenance and support arrangement will be discussed at the close of the initial agreement. Any maintenance will be performed on-site.

USAGE OF ITEM The global spheres will be used for educational purposes. The intent is to have one large model in a stationary area such as the DFRC Visitor Center and one other sphere to use at different venues such as schools, libraries, or museums; therefore, the smaller sphere will have portability.

This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation, which is issued as a Request for Quotation (RFQ); quotes are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Offerors are required to use the On-Line RFQ system to submit their quote. The On-line RFQ system is linked above or it may be accessed at http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/eps/bizops.cgi?gr=C&pin= . The information required by FAR Subpart 12.6 is included in the on-line RFQ.

The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12 and the Simplified Acquisition Procedures set forth in FAR Part 13.

It is the quoter’s responsibility to monitor this site for the release of amendments (if any). Potential quoters will be responsible for downloading their own copy of this notice, the on-line RFQ and amendments (if any). Quotes are due by September 15, 2009 at 2:00pm PDT.
