Images

The MODIS on the Terra satellite captured this image of scattered fires across Indochina on March 17, 2008.

Each active fire is represented by a red dot.

On the left side of the image there is some smoke and haze in Thailand. In Southeast Asia, the dry season runs from November to May, during which, agricultural fires are widespread. West of Thailand is Myanmar (formerly Burma). East of Thailand are Laos, and Vietnam. Southeast of Thailand is Cambodia. In Thailand, the city of Bangkok appears as a large grayish patch along the coast of the northernmost part of the Gulf of Thailand. In Cambodia, the Tonlé Sap Lake appears deep green and brown.
