Background information on the transmission:
This Friday, 7 March, at Europe’s space port in Kourou; Ariane 5 with a huge payload under its fairing (equivalent to a London Bus!), is transferred from the preparatory area to the launch zone.
ATV “Jules Verne”, the European Automated Transfer Vehicle, at nearly 20 tonnes, is the largest payload ever launched by Ariane and also represents an historical mission: it is the first European cargo supplier for the ISS.
Launch is scheduled for a night-time launch on 9 March at 04:04 UTC. Todays video includes the final encapsulation of ATV and closure of the fairing – followed by roll-out to the launch pad.
