On 6 April 2007, the contribution of Working Group II to the “Climate Change 2007” assessment report of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) will be presented to the press in Brussels.

This is why ESA TV Service releases three new Exchanges on aspects of climate change and space – this is the second of the three stories:

Although climate change is number one on the news agenda, it’s not new on Earth. Today’s story looks at work by researchers at the Danish National Space Centre who investigate whether fluctuations in the intensity of cosmic radiation have any influence on our climate. It is known that high-energy particles from space stimulate cloud creation, which in turn has a cooling effect on Earth. Part of past climate variations might be explained by this mechanism.
