NASA MODIS Image of the Day: February 7, 2007 – Haze Over East Central Asia
A great deal of haze covered East Central Asia on February 6, 2007, when this image was acquired by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite. The image shows China (left), North and South Korea (center) and the islands of Japan (right). Black lines denote country borders.
Much of the haze, dingy grey-beige in color, is pollution. It’s so thick in places that it completely obscures the view of the underlying land or water. At least some of this haze may be from fires in south-east Asia. There are even a few fires in China, which are shown with red dots.
