HURRICANE KATRINA ASSISTANCE INFORMATION

The JSC Joint Leadership Team is coordinating efforts to provide assistance to NASA civil servant and contractor employees affected by Hurricane Katrina. A comprehensive Web site is being developed and will be updated to provide you with the latest information on how you can help as well as information for evacuee assistance. There will be opportunities to volunteer to support a food drive, answer phones and collect monetary donations. The Web site should be operational tomorrow and more information will be added as it becomes available. Watch for details in JSC Today.

In response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, JSC is establishing a program to coordinate volunteer housing for NASA community (civil servants and contractors) from Michoud and Stennis that may be in need of temporary housing. If you would like to volunteer to house one, two, three or more individuals or a family whose homes have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina, please call the JSC Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to sign up or for more information. The EOC phone number is (281) 483-3388 or 1-866-836-7918. The EOC will be available for phone calls from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Web site is being established in the near future for online sign up.

The JSC Gilruth Center has been designated as the drop-off location for food and non-perishable items for the first major donation effort. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 1 through Friday, Sept. 9 you may drop off non-perishable items from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be no drop off over the Labor Day Holiday weekend (Saturday, Sunday or Monday).

A large, white box truck will be located at the front entrance area of the Gilruth Center and there will be large signs posted on the truck to easily identify it. Drop-off boxes will also be located at contractor locations for off-site employees to donate. These contractor location boxes will need to be brought to the Gilruth Center during the drop-off times.
