CU-Boulder MAVEN Mission Set to Finish Under Budget

The University of Colorado-led MAVEN mission to Mars is on track to come in under its $671.2 million budget.
MAVEN, or the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution mission, may become the first mission to the Red Planet to underspend, said principal investigator and CU researcher Bruce Jakosky.

Jakosky said it’s not clear yet exactly how far under budget MAVEN will be because the mission project plan runs through April 2016.

“It’s a significant under-run,” Jakosky said. “Our best guess is we’re coming in under budget; we just don’t know how much yet.”
