Additionally, beyond emphasizing these lessons, our intent with this special issue was to also highlight the challenges and opportunities for researching teams in such contexts in the future. These papers highlight the benefits and need for more research studying teams in the wild where insights into inputs, processes, emergent states, and outputs might otherwise be missed in more conventional environments.
