Hearing: Next Steps to Mars: Deep Space Habitats

TOMORROW – Wednesday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. ET – the Space Subcommittee will hold a hearing titled Next Steps to Mars: Deep Space Habitats. The hearing will examine Mars exploration, specifically efforts to develop deep space habitation capabilities. In the 2016 omnibus spending bill, Congress directed NASA to develop a habitation module prototype within its advanced exploration systems program no later than 2018.

At tomorrow’s hearing, Mr. Jason Crusan, Director of Advanced Exploration Systems (AES) at NASA, will provide testimony. The Committee will also hear from Mr. John Elbon, Vice President and General Manager of Space Exploration at The Boeing Company, Ms. Wanda Sigur, Vice President and General Manager of Civil Space at Lockheed Martin Corporation, Mr. Frank Culbertson, President of Space Systems at Orbital-ATK, and Mr. Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
