EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) reported today that it has begun in-orbit testing of its new EchoStar XXIII satellite following successful placement into its geosynchronous orbital slot at 45° West longitude.

"We are excited to take this step in the expansion of our satellite fleet," said Anders Johnson, president of EchoStar Satellite Services L.L.C. The satellite was manufactured by Space Systems Loral (SSL) and launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center—the first commercial launch from the historic launch complex—at 2:00 am EDT, 6:00 am UTC on March 16, 2017. EchoStar XXIII brings the EchoStar fleet to 26 owned, leased and managed satellites.
