We are expanding our broadcast/web internship and CO-OP programs and
will be offering three paid positions to students and recent
graduates:

– Earth Science Broadcast and Web News Internship / Fellowship

– Science Broadcast and Web News CO-OP

– Television Production Internship/Fellowship

Title: NASA Earth Science Broadcast and Web News Internship
/ Fellowship

Majors: Broadcast Journalism; Science Writing, Media Relations

Date: One year position beginning Spring – Summer, 2002

Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD

Stipend: $25,000 – $30,000 / year

Unique opportunity to gain first-hand, on-the-job television and web
production experience at the leading NASA Earth Science center. This
is an outstanding opportunity to gain professional experience and add
to your personal portfolio.

The internship focuses on using television, world-wide-web and radio
to communicate the results of NASA’s Earth Science missions to the
general public by making them available to the broadcast news media
and other informal outreach venues such as museums and schools.

The intern will participate in the production and distribution of a
wide-range of material used by national and international news media,
weather broadcasters, independent and education producers. These
products may include satellite imagery of breaking news events, video
news releases and resource packages, live interviews with national
broadcast media, and televised press conferences.

The intern may perform research, write press releases and image
advisories, participate in field production, post stories to the web,
conduct interviews, and participate in video and radio editing. The
position also offers an opportunity to work with world-class
animators and remote sensing imaging specialists.

We are especially interested in individuals who can work full time
for an entire one-year period beginning in the spring or summer of
2001. Candidates must have strong writing and journalism skills and
should have experience in television production techniques.

The internship program offers a stipend ranging from 25k-30k / year.
Candidates with an interest in science will find this internship
particularly rewarding.

Title: NASA Science Broadcast and Web News CO-OP

Majors: Science Writing, Web Design and Production, Media
Relations, Broadcast Journalism

Date: Begin Spring – Summer, 2002

Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD

Salary: Varies by Education Level (Federal GS-3 to GS-7 Scale)

Note: Applicants must be working towards an undergraduate or
graduate level degree in an accredited college program.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience in science web and
broadcast production while working towards your degree. The CO-OP
student will work in the Goddard Space Flight Center newsroom with an
award-winning team of science writers, television producers and web
designers.

This CO-OP program focuses on using the world-wide-web, television,
and radio to communicate the results of NASA’s Science missions to
the general public. The student will assist in the production of a
wide range of visual products including satellite imagery of breaking
news events, video news releases and resource packages, webcasts,
live television interviews with national broadcast media, and
televised press conferences.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and broadcast skills and
will have the ability to port images and stories originally intended
for broadcast to the web. Candidates with an interest in science will
find this internship particularly rewarding.

NASA Cooperative Education Program is designed to combine academic
studies with on-the-job training and experience and to give students
an opportunity to work at a NASA Field Center while completing their
education.
The program is flexible. Students typically spend between 6 months
and two years in the program. Participation may be full time or part
time.
