Jupiter: September 2020

At the south pole of Jupiter lurks a striking sight--even for a gas giant planet covered in colorful bands that sports a red spot larger than the earth.

Jupiter's volcanically active moon Io casts its shadow on the planet in this dramatic image from NASA's Juno spacecraft.

This latest image of Jupiter, taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope on 25 August 2020, was captured when the planet was 653 million kilometres from Earth.
