WSBR luncheon with former Congressman Mike Rogers

Date: Tuesday, April 2, 2019

Location: City Club of Washington 555 13th St NW, Washington, DC, US, 20004

Join us on April 2nd at the City Club with keynote speaker, former Congressman Mike Rogers.

In his keynote address, Mr. Rogers will summarize the discussions and insights gained from a study conducted by the National Security Space Program at the Center for the Study of the Presidency & Congress (CSPC).

If the United States was to remain or indeed regain its leadership in space, it is and will continue to be critical that it seize upon emerging space technologies, integrate them into the national security space architecture, and prepare for a rapidly emerging space future.

It is this fundamental concern that the National Security Space Program (NSSP) at the CSPC seeks to address. Chaired by former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) and co-chaired by CSPC President & CEO, former Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA), the program brought together key leaders in New Space, the Department of Defense, and United States Air Force to discuss the policy, regulatory, legislative, bureaucratic, and cultural obstacles to integrating these new technologies into the space architecture.

Over the course of the year the NSSP held three major off-the-record conversations in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, and one table-top exercise to identify changes in regulation, culture, approach, and scope that would positively affect how the United States organizes, trains, equips, and acquires space capabilities.

The ultimate goal of all this activity is the development of real and actionable recommendations that CSPC will take to the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Air Force, Congress, the National Space Council, and beyond for consideration and adoption.

Mike Rogers is a former member of Congress representing Michigan's Eighth Congressional District, and previously served as an officer in the U.S. Army and FBI special agent. Additionally, Mr. Rogers is a Senior Fellow at Harvard University and a member of the Advisory Board for George Mason University's National Security and Law Policy Institute. Mr. Rogers is a 1985 graduate of Adrian College. He is married to Kristi Rogers and has two children.
