WASHINGTON – TUESDAY, April 17, at 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology will meet to consider the following legislation:
H.R. 5509, the Innovations in Mentoring, Training, and Apprenticeships Act, introduced today by Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). The legislation directs the National Science Foundation to provide grants for innovative approaches to STEM education and related workforce development programs. STEM education approaches and improved development of the STEM-related workforce. The bill expands the workforce pipeline in STEM fields through experiments with paid apprenticeships and other applied learning opportunities for college students as well as enhancement of two-year degree programs and technical skills certificates in order to meet the shortage of qualified candidates for the more than two million jobs in STEM fields projected to go unfilled in the next decade.

H.R. 5503, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Authorization Act of 2018, introduced today by Rep. Brian Babin (R- Texas). The legislation authorizes the programs of NASA for fiscal years 2018 and 2019.
