Washington, D.C. - Following the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, this THURSDAY JULY 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM the Science, Space, and Technology Committee will hold a special LIVE downlink with astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Members will have an opportunity to ask questions of U.S. Astronauts Steven Swanson and Reid Wiseman live from the Destiny Lab aboard the ISS, where they conduct scientific experiments in the weightlessness of space.

U.S. Astronaut Dr. Steven Swanson

Dr. Swanson has received numerous awards and honors, including the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and the JSC Certificate of Accommodation and many others. Prior to becoming a NASA astronaut, Swanson worked for GTE in Phoenix, Arizona, as a software engineer. He has flown 2 shuttle flights, STS-117 and STS-119 and has logged over 643 hours in space and completed 4 spacewalks totaling 26 hours and 14 minutes. Dr. Swanson has also served in other roles at NASA, such as a CAPCOM for both International Space Station and Space Shuttle missions. 

U.S. Astronaut CDR G. Reid Wiseman (USN)

Commander Wiseman is an American astronaut and naval aviator, selected in June 2009 as a member of the NASA Astronaut Group 20 and qualified as an astronaut in 2011.  He was selected as one of nine candidates from 3,500 applicants to begin astronaut training. Before joining NASA, CDR Wiseman was a Naval aviator and test pilot.

Dr. Swanson and CDR Wiseman are currently in space as part of the Expedition 40/41 International Space Station crew. The mission is scheduled to be six months in duration and launched on May 28, 2014.
